Nutrition for a healthful lifestyle

Mid-day Meal Programme (Vidyaprasad)

“It is not just about filling a stomach, but nourishing a future.”

— Dr. Mahantesh

As a leading NGO for disabled in India and among the impactful NGOs in Bangalore for disability support, Samarthanam integrates nutrition with its larger vision of disability inclusion programs in India. The Mid-Day Meal Programme—Vidyaprasad—is designed not just to address hunger, but to strengthen inclusive education for disabilities by ensuring that every child is nourished, empowered, and ready to learn.
Launched in 2003, this initiative complements Samarthanam’s broader work in education support for blind students, skill development for persons with disabilities, and community-based rehabilitation in India. By providing daily nutritious meals to children in government schools in Bengaluru, the programme directly improves attendance, learning outcomes, and overall well-being, while contributing to the reduction of school dropout rates.

Supported by the Government of India and the Government of Karnataka, Vidyaprasad operates through a centralized, hygienic, and automated kitchen, ensuring high standards of food safety and nutrition delivery at scale. Today, it serves over 1,65,000 meals per month across 52+ schools, playing a vital role in malnutrition prevention and child development, especially among underserved and differently abled communities.
Beyond schools, the programme supports rehabilitation services for the disabled through nutrition at Samarthanam’s women’s hostels in HSR Layout and Hulimavu, and extends to community meal support during events, reinforcing inclusive care systems.
Aligned with opportunities for CSR partnership with NGOs in India and corporate CSR projects for disability, Vidyaprasad stands as a scalable model of impact—where nutrition fuels not just education, but long-term inclusion and empowerment.
More than a meal programme, it reflects Dr. Mahantesh’s vision of creating an ecosystem where support services for the differently abled, education, and dignity converge—ensuring that every child has the foundation to thrive.

Voices of Gratitude

"The Mid-Day Meal Programme has transformed our classrooms. Children come to school with enthusiasm, knowing they will be nourished. Attendance has improved, and learning outcomes are stronger because no child studies on an empty stomach."

Our Supporters

A big thank you for believing in our cause.

Health Camps

Regular health camps are organized across schools and communities, offering preventive care, screenings, and consultations. These camps help identify health concerns early, provide immediate interventions, and connect children and adults to specialized medical services.

Surgery Support

For individuals requiring criticalmedical interventions, Samarthanam facilitates surgery support—bridgin g the gap between need and access. By partnering with hospitals and donors, we ensure that life-changing surgeries restore mobility, vision, and overall quality of life for underserved communities.

Assistive Devices

Empowerment begins with accessibility. Through the distribution of assistive devices such as Retro fit 2 wheelers, wheelchairs, hearing aids, Braille kits, and mobility aids, Samarthanam enables persons with disabilities to lead independent, dignified lives. These devices are not just tools—they are gateways to education, employment, and inclusion.
