Mid-day Meal Programme (Vidyaprasad)
— Dr. Mahantesh
Launched in 2003, this initiative complements Samarthanam’s broader work in education support for blind students, skill development for persons with disabilities, and community-based rehabilitation in India. By providing daily nutritious meals to children in government schools in Bengaluru, the programme directly improves attendance, learning outcomes, and overall well-being, while contributing to the reduction of school dropout rates.

Supported by the Government of India and the Government of Karnataka, Vidyaprasad operates through a centralized, hygienic, and automated kitchen, ensuring high standards of food safety and nutrition delivery at scale. Today, it serves over 1,65,000 meals per month across 52+ schools, playing a vital role in malnutrition prevention and child development, especially among underserved and differently abled communities.
Beyond schools, the programme supports rehabilitation services for the disabled through nutrition at Samarthanam’s women’s hostels in HSR Layout and Hulimavu, and extends to community meal support during events, reinforcing inclusive care systems.
Aligned with opportunities for CSR partnership with NGOs in India and corporate CSR projects for disability, Vidyaprasad stands as a scalable model of impact—where nutrition fuels not just education, but long-term inclusion and empowerment.
More than a meal programme, it reflects Dr. Mahantesh’s vision of creating an ecosystem where support services for the differently abled, education, and dignity converge—ensuring that every child has the foundation to thrive.
Health & Nutrition: Beyond Meals, Towards Well-being
Together, these initiatives form a comprehensive health and nutrition ecosystem—where every meal, every medical intervention,
and every assistive device contributes to building stronger, healthier, andmore inclusive communities.
Voices of Gratitude
"The Mid-Day Meal Programme has transformed our classrooms. Children come to school with enthusiasm, knowing they will be nourished. Attendance has improved, and learning outcomes are stronger because no child studies on an empty stomach."
