Punar, is a Social Enterprise initiative started by Samarthanam in 2014. It is a women empowerment project providing livelihood opportunities to women with disabilities and from rural areas. The project involves making of handmade products from dry waste under the concept of ‘recycling & upcycling’. Through Punar project, women are provided with employment and the ease of working from their respective residences. The products are displayed in the in-house store at Samarthanam Head Quarters in HSR Layout, Bangalore. The handicrafts are also displayed at stalls set up occasionally at various corporate companies. like IBM, Enzen, Qualcomm, Adobe, GKN Aerospace and so on.
Project Punar encompasses three groups of women, ‘Kirana,’ ‘Deepa’ and ‘Achalu,’ working in villages located near Kanakapura. ‘Kirana’ includes women from Kadahalli village who make paper products. Women under ‘Deepa’ work from Halsuru village engaged in block printing. And ‘Ushe’ involves women from Achalu village, making bags and toys out of cloth.
Punar team accepts orders for customization of handicraft products for individuals and corporates as well.
