Balasubramanyam is a versatile singer of the Sunadha Troupe. Hailing from Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh, he developed an interest for singing at an early age. While performing in 2014 at a regional programme on Suvarna Channel, he was noticed by Samarthanam and was invited to be part of the art and culture troupe.
Balasubramanyam has received free training from Samarthanam in the areas of music and computer skills. He has travelled across the US and UK as part of Samarthanam’s performances. We are constantly amazed at the way our visually impaired beneficiaries communicate with music. While he sings during special events, he has also honed in the skills to be part of the Business Process Outsourcing unit of Samarthanam.
Samarthanam is constant working to motivate our artists and seeing our disabled artists perform well helps remove the disability barrier and create good artists and well grounded individuals.
Meet Balurappa, the ever-smiling rhythm pad player of Sunadha’s musical troupe. Sunadha is the cultural wing of Samarthanam Trust for the Disabled that identifies artistic talent among PwDs. Balurappa was introduced to Samarthanam in 2010 through his best friend and better-half Savithri. Balurappa, being visually impaired is a self-taught musician and has a skill for mimicry. He is extremely thankful to Samarthanam for focussing on building his soft skills through training over the years and offering him employment. He now is a confident speaker, can make music and balances the rhythm of life despite his impairment.
Sunadha has honed in his skills as a musical artist and given him the platform to perform across stages. We invest in abilities and create an accessible learning environment where we leave NO ONE behind!
Ashok is one of our long-standing beneficiaries of Samarthanam Trust. He developed an interest for dancing at 17 apart from his flair for singing and music. A chance search on the internet led him to the gates of Samarthanam. He was offered training at Sunadha and a platform to show his skills on International platforms. He has a never give up attitude and continues to pursue his dream of education. The stories we present shows the importance of focused interventions in meeting the goal of promoting schilling opportunities for people with disabilities and accessing employment on an equal basis with non-disabled persons.
Sridevi is a versatile dancer of the Sunadha Troupe. Though speech and hearing impaired, she can dance to a beat. She conveys stories and thoughts through her dance performances.
Born to a large family of five siblings, Sridevi faced a profound hearing and speech loss right at birth. Visits to the hospital were futile. Her parents provided her the support she needed. She started dance training when she was just about 15 years old and since then her hard work has paid off. Her accomplishments so far are a testament to her and her family’s determination to help her succeed.
Sridevi is now a professional classical dancer and has performed across Bangkok, US, and UK along with her group excelling in every dance performance. She is grateful to Samarthanam for providing enabling settings that shape the passions of disabled artists. Sridevi is a source of inspiration to other dancers with hearing impairment.
