Innovations at Samarthanam bringing hope to the youth and children with intellectual disabilities
Inauguration of the ‘Paper plate making machine’ and the physiotherapy room on 17th July 2018. Samarthanam Trust for the Disabled leaves no stones unturned when it comes to providing end-to-end solutions to the issues faced by the persons with disabilities. The newly inaugurated ‘Paper plate Making Machinery’ at the organization’s campus at HSR Layout is what one can call a turning point which will impact the lives of youth with intellectual disabilities. The aim of establishing this small-scale plant is to provide the means of livelihood for the intellectually disabled youngsters. The school for the Intellectually Disabled popularly know as the ID School of Samarthanam has taken the primary step towards providing livelihood to these children. The machinery can also make organic plates using the barks of the areca nut palm. For the time being, paper with silver-toned leak-proof layering is used for making disposable paper plates of different circumferences.
The ID school also inaugurated a physiotherapy room with soft play and related equipment aiding the development of the children with intellectual disabilities. The room has three swings, bolster swing, T-swing, to name a few along with parallel bars to help the physically challenged children with intellectual disabilities to better their walking.
Both these initiatives were supported by a corporate while some of their officials in attendance along with Smt Vasanti Savanur, Trustee, Samarthanam while the inauguration ceremony was spearheaded by the Principal of the ID School, Smt Geetha Kallakatta.
