Pune: With a vision to empower visually impaired, disabled and underprivileged people through various developmental initiatives, Samarthanam Trust for the Disabled has now set its foot in Pune, with the inauguration of Livelihood Resource Centre (LRC) in association with RBL Bank. The centre was inaugurated by the Head of CSR, HR and Internal Branding of RBL Bank, Ms. Shanta Vallury Gandhi.
Addressing the gathering on the importance of skilling the disabled and the underprivileged people, Founder Managing Director of Samarthanam Trust for the Disabled, Mr. Mahantesh G. K. said, “I’m extremely happy that Samarthanam is expanding to Pune to replicate our success in Bangalore and other places. Empowering persons with disability is the need of the hour, especially when companies are willing to hire but unable to because these youth are still unemployable. I thank RBL bank for coming forward and supporting us to set up our skilling centre in Pune. This will encourage people with disability in and around Pune and Maharashtra to take maximum benefit out of this and become self-sufficient, contributing, tax-paying citizens of the country.”
Overwhelmed with the project and experiences that students at the center shared about their growth, Head of CSR, HR and Internal Branding of RBL Bank, Ms. Shanta Vallury Gandhi said, “What we realized today is that we created value not only for Samarthanam but also for ourselves. Our vision is ‘apno ka bank’. We are always making efforts to give back to the society. What you taught us today is to listen more, talk less and experience life. We would love to partner with Samarthanam to achieve our aim to impact 2,00,000 lives by 2020.”
The Pune centre has a capacity of about 50 students and is equipped with competent staff and computers.
