Inauguration of Disabled Friendly Railway Stations in Bangalore
To facilitate independent mobility within the station for the visually impaired, Speech and Hearing impaired and Senior Citizens, Samarthanam joined hands with South Western Railways and Sapiens Technologies India Pvt Ltd and inaugurated special services accessible Railway Station on 24th March 2022 in KSR Bengaluru Railway Station.
Sri Shyam Singh, Divisional Railway Manager, Bengaluru Division, Mr. Abir Mustafi, Operations Head, Mr. Abhijith K, Senior Manager HR, & Vijay GS, Senior Manager Administration, Sapiens Technologies India Pvt Ltd and Dr Mahantesh G. K, Founder Samarthanam Trust for the Disabled inaugurated the Divyangjan Waiting Room, Braille signage and LED TV with sign language announcements for Speech and Hearing Impaired.
Some of the Accessibility features initiated by Samarthanam in Railway stations include the creation of more than 100 sign language announcements for Speech and hearing people, Braille map signage, platform indicators, auditory signals in entrance and exit of the station for visually impaired people/ people with physical disabilities/ senior citizens and 35 accessibility features in the stations, like Static and portable ramps, railings, modifications in toilets and fully accessible waiting room. Panasonic LED TVs have been installed in Railway stations, playing Videos in sign language to benefit the Speech and hearing impaired by giving access to crucial information, facilitating passengers with hearing impairment to travel independently with safety and security. Important information interpreted into sign language includes Medical Facility/ Ambulance/ reimbursement process/, getting concession card/smart UDID card, the procedure in obtaining a wheelchair in the railway station, porterage charges, Buggy charges, Retiring rooms/Dormitory charges, Concession rules for people with disabilities, information about Helpline Numbers, Pre Recorded Daily and Non-Daily Train announcement of Bangalore city Railway station, QR code posters to know station information in sign language are also provided.
