Disabling inhibitions to excel in sports

Samarthanam perceives sports as a medium to improve inclusion and to encourage persons with disabilities on various fronts. Sports contribute to the holistic development of an individual and re-energize the inactive mind. At Samarthanam, we have introduced various sports activities to our children with disabilities who show great enthusiasm for learning and practicing the same. The sports team is involved in grooming the skill-set of the students and encourages playing at the National level. While sports are greatly promoted at Samarthanam Schools, beneficiaries from every initiative show interest in being a part of the sporting activities.

Alongside, Samarthanam’s sports wing, Cricket Association for the Blind in India (CABI) has been established in 2010 to foster the cricketing dreams of visually impaired cricket players and to provide a platform to portray their unbound talent in the game of blind cricket. CABI is affiliated to World Blind Cricket Ltd (WBC).

Cricket Association for the Blind in India (CABI)

From being played with a tin can and a stick to audio balls and metal stumps, blind cricket has come a long way. The enthusiasm of the visually impaired for India’s favorite game and the determination of the administrators to create a level playing field for the disadvantaged have ensured that the game is now played professionally at the National and International level.

The motive behind organizing Cricket for the Blind is to provide the players with a platform to showcase hidden talent. It aids in enhancing the players’ self-confidence, encourages sportsmanship and focuses on their abilities rather than disabilities.
