Rural initiatives

Objective

The scope of development in Rural initiatives is very wide, as it includes not just the economic development but the growth on social front, quality of life, empowerment, women and child development, education and awareness of the people in rural areas. The main objective is to serve the public and community as a whole and facilitate comprehensive rehab services to children & Adults with Disabilities.

The unit is situated in Chilamathur Mandal stretching in an area of 5 acres of land in Kodikonda Village after the check post of Karnataka Border. The border areas are unreached for any services to be given to the vulnerable community like People with Disabilities. As of now the center facilitates interventions like

Day care center for children with intellectual disabilities
Care givers Training
Camp for Assistive Devices
Facilitates referrals to various rehab services like Bangalore Satya Sai Hospital and other Institutions
Generates awareness about Disability & Rehab services in the border areas

The Vaccination programme in Bagepalli areas has reduced vaccination hesitancy among the communities in Bagepalli areas and made a steadfast growth in increasing the awareness on vaccination drive. Samarthanam has demystified myths and has distributed Health kits to ASHA & Anganwadi workers.

Impact

30 Children and Adult with Disabilities were provided with Assistive devices such as Artificial limbs, Wheel chair, Crutches, Calipers, Surgical Shoes. More than 253 ASHA & Anganwadi workers are benefitted through the Health kits.

20 children with Disabilities are benefitted through Day Care center Activities of Kodikonda, The logistics also include -Rural Unit pick up and drop facilities, and providing nutritious Meals to Children.

Samarthanam with the support of Livelihood Resource Centre, Kodikonda, organized a health camp on September 10, 2022. 104 health checkup and medical services were provided by Primary Health Centre, Chilamathur!

Future Plans

Samarthanam plans to expand its programme through various interventions like, promoting growth based activities for People with Disabilities and family members in Chilamathur and Bage palli areas, Setting up mobile physiotherapy clinic for People with Disabilities, Strengthen existing Day care center, Promote Skill development among People with Disabilities and family members , extend support for higher Education for PwDs, and Provision of Health care services and facilitate entitlement to Pwds.

Interventions to Anganwadi Schools Integrated Child Development Services

Samarthanam Trust has partnered with the ICDS Integrated Child Development Department and is currently working with 25 Anganwadis in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana to improve their infrastructure and enhance the foundational literacy and numeracy skills of both disabled and non-disabled children. This includes providing Teaching Learning Material and conducting capacity-building sessions for teachers, parents, and caregivers to emphasize the importance of nutrition, early detection of disabilities, and timely interventions. The organization also provides support for the nutrition and well-being of pregnant and lactating mothers.
