Visually impaired Para climbers off to Moscow for Para climbing World Championship
Samarthanam Trust for the Disabled is all set to participate in the Para Climbing World Championship in Moscow Russia from Sep 14th to 17th 2021. Dr G.K.Mahantesh, Founder Managing Trustee Samarthanam Trust for the Disabled says “I am very happy that our 3 students – Murali, Sujatha and Sunitha have been chosen to participate in Para Climbing World Championship in Moscow. I believe that sport is a major vertical, where persons with disabilities acquire vital social skills, develop independence, and become empowered to act as agents of change. These skills facilitate my students to transfer to help them in new arenas including employment and advocacy which in turn builds self-sufficiency.
Samarthanam the award winning NGO works to uplift and empower every individual with impairments from weaker backgrounds through developmental initiatives focusing on Education, Sports, Social, and Technological aspects. Samarthanam envisions an inclusive society free from discrimination where persons with disabilities become agents of change in the society living with dignity and respect.
Sports cuts barriers against linguistic, cultural and social barriers to provide an excellent platform for inclusion and adaptation. Furthermore, the universal popularity of sport and its physical, social and economic development benefits make it an ideal tool for fostering the inclusion and well-being of persons with disabilities.
Students have been accompanied by Ms Shikha the Sports Coordinator from Samarthanam, who says “This is the first time that the visually challenged are representing India and Samarthanam is bearing all the expenses for this tour. We request patrons and well wishers to support us” IMF in its selection trials at Bengaluru has selected visually impaired climbers for Rope climbing.
